What is the purpose of the annual US Visa Lottery?

For many years now, America has been a dream homeland for many foreign nationals, because of the fact that America has always been a land of opportunities. Hence, these foreign nationals believe that if they settle in America they will have a bright future with many benefits. Entering the U.S is not an easy task. Having said that, the U.S. Government has made provisions to allow foreign nationals to enter the country legally. This is achieved by issuing different visas to immigrants, provided they satisfy the corresponding requirements. Among the different visas offered is the Lawful Permanent Resident Card, also known as the green card. This Lawful Permanent Resident Card is a shortcut to American citizenship for many.

In order to give foreign nationals the benefit of obtaining a Lawful Permanent Resident Card, the U.S. State Department organises the U.S. Diversity Immigrant Visa program, commonly known as U.S.A. Green Card Lottery Program. This U.S. Diversity Visa lottery program is conducted every year, and 50,000 foreign nationals are each offered a U.S.A. Green Card visa, provided they satisfy the program requirements.

The U.S. State Department organizes this U.S. Diversity Immigrant Visa program for a purpose. As the name clearly suggests, the U.S. Diversity Immigrant Visa program is aimed at increasing the diversity of the population in the country. More than 50,000 US Green Card Lottery visas are offered to the natives of those countries which are under-represented in the U.S. population. These recipients are entitled to the benefits of living and working in the United States legally.

If a foreign country has sent more than 50,000 natives to America in the last five years, then that country is not eligible to participate in the Green Card Lottery process. As a result, a fair chance is given to the residents of all foreign countries; at the same time a diverse poulation is also ensured in the US. The Green Card Lottery process involves a list of eligibility requirements, which when satisfied makes a foreign national eligible to file a Green Card Lottery application.

The Green Card Lottery program is a perfect opening for foreigners who are looking for a greener pasture in the USA. If he/she receives a Permanent Resident Card after a successful green card application, then U.S. citizenship is just five years away. This program is also aimed at those who want to reside in the US indefinitely and those who want to bring their immediate family into the country.

So, if you belong to a country that is less represented in the US population, and if you are looking to settle in the US as an American citizen, then the U.S.A. Green Card Lottery program is the right platform to make your dreams come true. However, there are many things you should be carefeul about before submitting the Green Card Lottery application form. Official US Government Program

The congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is administered on an annual basis by the Department of State and conducted based on United States law, specifically Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). This law provides for a class of immigrants known as “diversity immigrants,” with visas made available to persons from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States. The annual DV program makes 50,000 visas available to persons meeting simple, but strict, eligibility requirements. A computer-generated, random drawing chooses selectees for DVs. The visas are distributed among six geographic regions, and within each region, no single country may receive more than seven percent of the available DVs in any one year. Visas are allocated to nationals of countries with historically lower rates of US immigration. Nationals of countries who have sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States over the past five years are not eligible to apply for the Diversity Visa program. The Department of State implemented the electronic registration system beginning with DV-2005 in order to make the DV process more efficient and secure. The Department utilizes special technology and other means to identify those who commit fraud for the purposes of illegal immigration or those who submit multiple entries.

I am thanking you for helping me register so quickly in this fantastic program. I am a third year university student studying engineering in Argentina and want to work in this field in the United States. I tried to register for many years using different organizations and I always thought I was getting no service or help from anyone. This was very frustrating. I am so glad I found you to help me with each step of the registration. I finally feel that I am working with people who know what they are doing and can answer all my questions clearly!
